How much do we know about the sea? Not as much as we could - nearly 95% of our oceans are unexplored.

As the largest ecosystem on Earth, we rely on the sea to generate half the oxygen we breathe, and to provide us with food to eat. It’s vital that we know more about the changes going on under the water - but we know less about the depths of our oceans than we do about the surface of the moon. 

Though lots of research has been done on areas about 170 metres deep, the average depth of the planet’s ocean is 4,000m.
Underwater technologies are constantly improving - just this month a team of German engineers presented a new set of underwater drones designed to delve further into our oceans.
